This oral history was recorded as part of the first McSwain
Community Celebration held July 15-18, 2004 at the McSwain
Community in Richton, Mississippi.  Joseph McSwain, the
grandson of Pherbie McSwain, told to best of his recollection
the history of the McSwain's Community and the original
families.

Pherbie McSwain was a slave of ________ McSwain in the
1840's.  Because she was a good __________.  She was
deeded __acre of land located in Perry County, Richton, MS.  
The Land Grant Deed dated 1852 signed by President
_________ and recorded in __________________ is the
official document of record of the land knows as the McSwain
Community.

The family history starts with Pherbie McSwain.  As Joseph tells
the family history, he starts out explaining that the family as he
knows it came about as the plantation owner fathered set of
children with a slave named Pherbie.  The plantation Owner
(master), surname was McSwain.  Pherbie McSwain had four
children by the master.  They were Ammetta, Bill, Nathan, and
Idell McSwain.  She had three children by her freedman
husband, _______________.  Their names were Jack, Sam,
and Adeline ________________.  Joseph said that is how we
have the dark side and the light side of the family
